We are ClimatePartner-certified!
Our site in Cologne-Porz is certified, which means that we have calculated our greenhouse gas emissions,
reduction targets, continuously implement reductions and finance climate protection projects.
climate protection projects.
We have received ClimatePartner certification because we have completed all five steps and thus demonstrated a comprehensive climate protection strategy.
With the ClimatePartner-certified label and the associated
Climate ID website, we would like to communicate transparently about these steps in detail below:
1. calculate carbon footprints
Together with ClimatePartner, we have calculated greenhouse gas emissions, i.e. our corporate carbon footprint
(CCF), the CO2 footprint of our company. The
calculation is based on the leading standards of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and
the international standards of ISO.
This includes all emissions from Scope 1 and 2 as well as most emissions from Scope 3.
Scope 1 includes emissions from self-generated heating and cooling and the vehicle fleet.
Scope 2 includes emissions from purchased heat, electricity and cooling.
Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions within the value chain.
indirect emissions within the value chain. Here we take into account
emissions include, for example, employee commuting or business travel.
For 2021, this resulted in a
corporate carbon footprint (CCF) of 96,050 KG CO2
for our location in Cologne-Porz.
2. setting reduction targets
In addition to the level of CO2 emissions, our CCF shows where these mainly arise and where we can avoid and reduce emissions.
For this purpose, we define reduction lines and derive reduction measures from these.
We want to reduce our emissions by 34.44t CO2 by 2025. We want to achieve this mainly through two major changes: Switching to energy-efficient means of transportation and switching to green electricity.
3. implement reductions
We have introduced and are continuously implementing reduction measures in line with our reduction targets.
To this end, we have committed to actively procuring 80% green electricity by 2025 and 100% by 2030.
We are already using 100% green electricity today and have met the target ahead of schedule.
We are also converting all company vehicles to electric cars, providing a corresponding charging infrastructure and creating further incentives for commuting to work by bike or public transport.
We also update our CCF annually. This allows us to keep track of our success in reducing emissions and identify further areas for improvement.
4. promoting climate protection projects
However, there are always emissions left over that
we cannot currently avoid. We take responsibility for these emissions
responsibility by financially supporting an internationally certified climate protection project
from the ClimatePartner portfolio:
We have opted for the "Climate protection project + marine protection", which was financed for the amount of 105,699 KG CO2.
This combined project contributes to the financing of a certified
climate protection project and also supports global marine
marine protection. For every tonne of CO2 saved through the contribution via a
certified climate protection project, 10 kg of plastic is collected in coastal regions.
regions, 10 kg of plastic is collected. In this way, plastic is intercepted before it
entering the sea and protecting sensitive marine ecosystems. Currently the
marine protection is currently being combined with a certified cookstove project in India
combined.
Further information on the project can be found on the ID page: www.climate-id.com/projekt
Climate protection projects save CO2 emissions - for example through reforestation measures or the replacement of climate-damaging technologies. They also promote the the achievement of the UN's global sustainability goals (Sustainable Development Goals), such as combating poverty or improving living conditions in emerging and developing countries. living conditions in emerging and developing countries.
5. communicate transparently
Using the label
ClimatePartner-certified label and the associated Climate ID website, you can
transparently track our certification:
www.climate-id.com/oehlbach
There you can find out, among other things, which category is certified, which CO2 emissions we take into account in which period and emissions we take into account, over what period and in what amount, what emission reduction targets we are committed to, what reduction measures we are implementing and more about the climate protection projects we finance.
